My life story in 150 words: I was the "art kid" growing up, so naturally, I went to art school. In my final weeks as a painting major, my teacher said "you should never paint again". Ouch. I graduated, traveled around Europe looking for myself (I wasn't there), and then went to design school. I became a graphic designer, worked in advertising, and stopped making art for over a decade. I missed it, but I was terrified - and then I was mad. In 2009 I started my art blog, The Jealous Curator - that's where I found myself. I write about artists' work that I love, and I've written books about blocks / self-doubt. I also started making my own art again. With paint. My work: A quick stroke of paint, a little character cut from an old book, and voila, a crazy story shows up in my head - every single time. NOTE: I am somewhat obsessed with Queen Elizabeth (and my imagined theory that she is infuriated by bubblegum), all things Hawaii-related (circa 1960), and neon pink gouache. If any of that changes, I'll let you know.
